Marble Sculpture Studio in Monchique, Portugal

Welcome to my marble sculpture studio in the picturesque landscapes of Monchique, Portugal, where art and craftsmanship meet. Each sculpture you see here is a unique, handmade creation. With years of experience, I meticulously craft each piece by hand, ensuring that no two sculptures are alike. Due to the time and effort required, I produce only a limited number of marble sculptures each year.

I work closely with my clients to design sculptures that fit perfectly with their vision, surroundings, and personal style. The Process of Marble Sculpture Creation

Creating a marble sculpture is an intensive process, from selecting the right block of marble to executing every detail by hand. In my studio in Monchique, I am inspired by the natural surroundings to carve intricate and organic forms from the stone. My sculptures are not just works of art; they are expressions of movement and stillness, designed to evoke emotion and provoke thought.

My Journey: From Germany to the Algarve

Originally from Germany, I chose the Algarve, specifically Monchique, to develop my own sculptural language. My inspiration comes from nature and the surrounding landscape, but also from legendary sculptors such as Henry Moore, whose abstract forms I first encountered in the marble quarries of Italy.
My artistic journey began with a mix of abstract and figurative sculptures, and over time, I moved toward complete abstraction. I take inspiration from artists like Naum Gabo and Antoine Pevsner, pioneers of the Abstraction-Creation movement.

They reflect the joy of discovery and the process of self-exploration. Each piece captures the essence of my inner journey, transforming spontaneous impulses into conscious movements that freeze a moment in time. My goal is to create forms that bring the viewer from stillness into stillness, bridging the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions.

Challenges and Triumphs

In 1998, I had my first major solo exhibition at the Galeria Centro Cultural de Sao Lourenco in Portugal. However, my path was not without challenges. A devastating fire in 2003 destroyed my studio, and in 2009, an eye accident left me partially blind. Despite these setbacks, I pushed myself further, developing my style into what it is today – transforming massive blocks of marble into delicate, flowing forms.
