Modern Art Marble Sculptures

What remains when everything is gone?

Indeed, the emptiness of space is, for me, the crucial hint at the fundamental principles of life, because everything that happens and everything that materializes comes from emptiness and returns to emptiness. Every atom vibrates in empty space, and between every thought, the emptiness reveals itself for a brief moment.

Therefore, emptiness is more fascinating to me than mass, which I tend to dissolve. I approach form in a way that is quite different from the traditional methods of sculpture.

Making of „Essence of Being“

Interview with Georg Scheele

Interviewer: Georg, your sculptures are known for their fluid, almost ethereal forms. How did you first come to work with stone in such an unconventional way?

Georg Scheele: It all started with an intense curiosity about the material. Stone is ancient and carries an energy that inspires me. I felt drawn to uncover shapes that seem impossible—forms that make the stone feel light, even soft. That’s the challenge and the beauty of working with it.

Interviewer: Many of your pieces seem to defy gravity and conventional structure. What’s your creative process like?

Georg Scheele: My process begins with the stone itself; I spend a lot of time observing each piece before I even touch it. Every block has its own story and lines, and I let those guide my vision. Then, it’s about balancing power and precision. I cut away what feels unnecessary, shaping the stone into something almost weightless in appearance—flowing lines, twisting shapes, a sense of movement. I aim to create an illusion of softness and light.

Interviewer: What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

Georg Scheele: I hope they feel a sense of wonder, maybe even a bit of disbelief. I want them to question their ideas about what stone can do, to see it in a new way. If they can feel a connection to the energy and fluidity of the piece, then I’ve succeeded. It’s about inviting them into a space where they can see the world, and the material, differently.
